What fees does Etsy charge sellers?

Etsy deducts several separate fees from every sale, and which ones apply depends on your shop's country:

  • Transaction fee — 6.5% of the item price plus shipping, before VAT, the same everywhere Etsy operates.
  • Payment processing fee — a percentage plus a flat fee, both set by your country, on the full amount the buyer pays including VAT.
  • Listing fee — 0.20 USD nominal, converted to your local currency, charged again only if a listing renews because it sold.
  • VAT on Etsy's fees — in the EU and UK, Etsy adds VAT on top of its own fees unless you've given Etsy a VAT number. Not applicable in the US.
  • Offsite Ads — 12–15%, only when a buyer clicked an Etsy ad within 30 days of buying. Not included in this calculator — see the FAQ below.
  • Regulatory Operating Fee — a small percentage, only in the specific countries listed in the tables below (not Poland, not the US).

How is the Etsy transaction fee calculated?

It's 6.5% of your item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer — calculated before VAT or sales tax is added, and the same rate no matter which country your shop is based in. A 3.50 EUR sale with no shipping has a transaction fee of 0.23 EUR — see the full worked example in the Poland section below.

Do Etsy fees include VAT?

In the EU and UK, yes: Etsy charges VAT on top of its own transaction, payment processing and listing fees, at the seller's own country's standard rate, unless that seller has given Etsy a VAT registration number (in which case Etsy applies a 0% reverse charge instead). The US has no VAT system, so none of this applies to US-based shops. This is separate from any VAT or sales tax the buyer pays on the item itself — that amount passes through to the tax authority and is never part of the seller's profit.

How much do I keep from a sale?

Start from your price and shipping before VAT, subtract the transaction fee, the payment processing fee, any VAT on those fees, and the listing fee if it renewed — what's left is your net payout. Subtract what the item and its shipping actually cost you to make, and what's left is profit. Use the calculator above to see this for your own price, or see exactly this broken out, for every real sale you've ever made, with a CraftKept trial.

Etsy fees in the United States

US-based Etsy sellers pay a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price and shipping, plus a payment processing fee of 3% + 0.25 USD on the full amount the buyer pays. The listing fee is 0.20 USD. The US has no VAT system, so there's no VAT added to Etsy's fees, and the US isn't on Etsy's Regulatory Operating Fee list.

Etsy fees in the United Kingdom

UK-based sellers pay the same 6.5% transaction fee, plus a payment processing fee of 4% + 0.20 GBP. Etsy adds VAT at 20% on top of its own fees (transaction, processing and listing) unless you've given Etsy a VAT number. The UK is also one of the countries Etsy charges a Regulatory Operating Fee in, currently 0.48% of the order total.

Etsy fees in the European Union

The EU isn't one fee table — each member state has its own VAT-on-fees rate, and only some of them have a Regulatory Operating Fee at all. The table below covers every EU country this calculator currently supports (plus Poland, with its own dedicated section further down).

Etsy fees in Poland

Poland-based sellers pay a 6.5% transaction fee, a payment processing fee of 4% + 0.30 EUR, and 23% VAT on top of Etsy's own fees (Poland's standard VAT rate) unless registered for VAT. Poland isn't on Etsy's Regulatory Operating Fee list.

Worked example — a real 3.50 EUR sale
  1. Item price, before VAT: 3.50 EUR
  2. Buyer pays 23% VAT: +0.81 EUR → buyer pays 4.31 EUR total
  3. Transaction fee (6.5%): 0.23 EUR, plus 0.05 EUR VAT on that fee
  4. Payment processing fee (4% + 0.30 EUR): 0.47 EUR, plus 0.11 EUR VAT on that fee
  5. Total fees, with VAT: 0.86 EUR
  6. Net payout: 2.64 EUR
No shipping, and the listing didn't renew on this particular sale — try it with your own numbers in the calculator above.

Frequently asked questions

Is this calculator free?
Yes — it's a free tool with no sign-up required. CraftKept, the paid product it's part of, imports your real Etsy statement and calculates every sale automatically.
Does Etsy charge VAT on its fees?
In the EU and UK, yes — Etsy adds VAT on top of its transaction, payment processing and listing fees, at your country's standard rate, unless you've given Etsy a VAT number. The US has no VAT system, so this doesn't apply there.
What's the difference between the transaction fee and the payment processing fee?
The transaction fee is 6.5% of your price and shipping, before VAT. The payment processing fee is a separate percentage plus a flat fee, set by your country, calculated on the full amount the buyer pays — including VAT.
Are Etsy fees the same in every country?
No. The payment processing fee, VAT on fees, and whether a Regulatory Operating Fee applies all vary by the seller's country — this calculator models each enabled country separately rather than using one global rate.
Does this calculator include Offsite Ads fees?
No. Offsite Ads (12–15%) only applies when a buyer clicks an Etsy ad within 30 days of buying, which this calculator has no way to know for a hypothetical sale, so it's left out rather than guessed.
How accurate is this calculator?
Every rate it uses is checked against an official Etsy source or a real Etsy order, with the verification date shown under your result. It's an estimate for one sale, not a guarantee — real fees also depend on factors like Offsite Ads, refunds and coupons.
Can I see this for all my real sales, not just one?
That's what CraftKept, the full product, does — upload your actual Etsy Payments CSV and it calculates real profit for every order automatically, with your product costs factored in.

CraftKept is not affiliated with or endorsed by Etsy.
